Located in the world’s best backyard, Southern Utah University is known for its year-round access to outdoor recreation and surrounding national parks. Drawing millions of tourists each year, many are making southern Utah their home. SUU’s Community and Workforce Development department aims to help communities thrive by connecting adult learners to campus resources and regional training/employment opportunities. We provide accessible, short-term learning programs for entering high-skill and targeted industries. Our efforts support key industries including healthcare, computer technology/cyber security, advanced manufacturing, aviation, parks and recreation leadership, and tourism/ hospitality management. This position will play a key role in expanding the region’s workforce capacity by engaging local organizations and promoting certificate education, workforce training, and employment opportunities broadly. -Communicate career pathway opportunities and resources that lead members of underserved populations to valuable skills training, employment opportunities, and ongoing education -Gather and report information about career upskilling opportunities from community agencies to inform new program development Why should you join our project? -Economic opportunity for underserved community members changes lives! Iron County is one of the top in Utah for intergenerational poverty at 36% -Strengthen the local economy by working with economic development leaders and local agencies to develop a high-skill/qualified workforce -Build a solid professional network by representing the department to community employers and social service agencies -Work with Governor’s One Utah Summit team and other regional partners to promote career training and education -Develop professional skills while preparing for a career in community development, education, professional communication, or social services

Member Duties : Communicate opportunities and resources -Travel broadly throughout the region to promote workforce development certificate/training opportunities to meet industry needs -Assist in planning, developing, and hosting Governor’s One Utah Summit on regional workforce development -Create resource connection guide and community presentations -Create and manage e-newsletter and coordinated social media Gather and report data to inform program development -Work with local economic development leaders to regularly gather and assimilate data in each of the university’s target industry sectors -Support program participants Explore funding and resource opportunities (grants, services, etc.) to assist adult and working learners in upskilling programs. Skills/attributes we're looking for: -Professional writing and communication skills -Represent university workforce development programs in the community -Understanding of local government and economic development operations
